Popped back to this build, finished at the turn of the year. A generous gym, with covered bar area, plus some external storage. Quick fix to a sticky lock, then the opportunity to get some photos under a blue sky. Thanks again to @elmscarpentry - particularly with the sharp interior. Problem solved…. I love that my processes solve tricky challenges. Add a nice aesthetic and the result is a very satisfying project. Soon to head off to the client’s home, a modest furniture workshop, sat on a tiny house trailer. With the client renting, it didn’t make sense to build a fixed structure. But being on wheels it can go wherever it needs to, and if it ever becomes surplus to requirements - it could easily be sold, and become a beautiful space for some other maker…. The basic form for a gym, covered deck and external storage… Groundscrews were due in for this build, but discovery of some significant bedrock has meant a wee change to the foundation plans. The design for a pair of workshops - for a local maker.

Working with Mike of @geo.ply on the design of some CNC cut portals - to increase the precision of our builds. Accurate to the millimetre, the sections are simple to fit together, then two 18mm portals glued and screwed together. I’ve long harboured the desire to build a project on wheels, and that’ll soon be happening… It’s to be a small scale furniture workshop for a client that needs a truly flexible solution. Built on a 4.2m Tiny-house trailer, it should be a cracker of a project. Having just secured an awesome barn workshop space, I’ll be exploring the potential for more similar builds. On the move… the wee creative studio with greater flexibility… I’ve had numerous hugely valuable chats about the Wonderhut in the last couple of weeks. Just a brilliant community of people around here - so many introductions and recommendations, plus help from brilliant folk I already knew. Hearing other people’s big ideas brings me a lot of joy. If you’ve got an idea hidden away that you’re cautious about sharing - please bring it out into the World! I’m finishing the week boosted by another great Creative Soup last night @steampunkcoffee and then this having watched @mykeldixon’ talk from the @thedolectures “I’ve realized we don’t always have to be the wild one, but we can always find one. We don’t have to be the gregarious, outgoing, charismatic centre of attention. You don’t have to have all the ideas, at least, not all the time. We can be the one that spots it, that’s constantly looking for those other people that are taking a risk, putting their reputation online, trying to make the world a little more beautiful, and just get behind them. Keep going…. yes, I’m with you! Stopping when you see a busker and throw some coins in, or at least saying: hey, man, well done., keep it up, thanks for making the world a more beautiful place.”

This time around we were tasked sorting storage to bring together various plates, dumbbells and kettlebells, freeing back up some floor space. These bespoke birch ply units complement our original peg boards, and the various reveals and skirting details. Lovely seeing it all still look so smart and inviting for a workout.

Back to this cracker of a gym we completed in Spring 2021. The green roofed pergola added two years later, then @the_lady_gardener worked her planting magic soon after. Pleased to say it’s really well used, with many extra bits of kit having been added since its design. #designandbuild Based in #northberwick #eastlothian
